Ruilick Holiday Cottages

Walking, fishing, cycling, golf and more in Beauly and Inverness

Ruilick is the ideal base for touring the Highlands we are only 1 kilometre from the village of Beauly which has in recent past won the best large village in the Britain in Bloom awards. There is a good selection of shops and restaurants in the village.

Beauly is in the midst of some of Scotland's finest mountains and Glens, Glen Affric, Glen Cannich and Strathfarrar are right on our doorstep and are reckoned to be 3 of the finest Glens in Scotland, Winston Churchill had a wartime retreat here. They are adorned with ancient Scots Pines, Wild Orchids and Primroses, they are inhabited by Pine Martins, Red Squirrel, Red Deer, Wildcat and Black Grouse.

High above these beautiful Glens are spectacular snow capped Munros and if you are lucky you may see the majestic Golden Eagle surveying all before him soaring high above.

These Glens are fantastic places to go walking, cycling, pony trekking, canoeing, fishing or hunting. Hunting and fishing can be booked through Donald Fraser at Morrisons in Beauly. 01463 782213. We can also help organise a days sea fishing if you prefer.

Beauly is very central for all touring destinations North, South, East and West, you can go a different direction every day. South to follow the Caledonian Canal to Loch Ness and a round tour of about 70 miles, or just go to Inverness and cruise the Loch but look out for Nessie! If you choose to go North why not visit Dunrobin Castle near Golspie it's a great day out.

Had enough driving? take a trip on the famous West coast rail line from Beauly to Kyle of Lochalsh and you will encounter some of the finest scenery the Highlands have to offer and you won't see this traveling by car.

Are you a Golfer? there are more than 20 excellent courses within an hours drive, from the championship courses at Dornoch and Nairn to the hidden gems at Gairloch and Bonar Bridge. Strathpeffer isn't for the faint hearted but it is stunning. The nearest golf course is at Muir of Ord which is 5 minutes away.

If you are a nature lover you must visit the Aigas Field Centre just 7 miles away where you will see many rare animals in their natural habitat It is a conservation paradise.

Enjoy walking? There are loads of walks here for all abilities and terrains from 1.7 miles to full days hiking and Munro bagging.

What's for the Children?

The Landmark heritage centre Carrbridge is only 45 minutes by car and there they can go through the tree top trail by rope bridge, then onto the water slides and see the old saw mill as it was early last century. Then after you have had a morning there why not go on past Aviemore to the Cairngorms and go up to the top on the Funicular railway, the views are breathtaking.

Day of rest, Inverness is only 12 miles away, take the kids to the aquadome for the morning, have a leisurely lunch then hit the shops for those Highland souvenirs. There's a great choice of shops and restaurants.
